Coney Island is about to get its own microbrewery. And it’s really micro. “This will be the world’s smallest non-production brewery with a brewhouse perhaps able to brew one-tenth of a barrel of beer at a time,” said Jeremy Cowan, founder of Schmaltz Brewing Company which will be opening the Coney Island Brewing Company in this 175-square-foot space next door to the Freak Show on 12th Street. To celebrate, the company will also introduce a new brew call Luna Lager.

  1. i think its cool, but why don’t think they say its a brew pub instead of a non-production thingy?

hopefully its better than the canned malt taste at places like the spotted pig, which isn’t even as good as i’ve made at home.

still, i think its pretty neat and i wish them well

  2. Awesome! It sounds like they’ll be giving out or selling Shmaltz brewery samples. This is the kind of urban development I like.

Also, is that a Steve Powers piece in the background? I’m confused by the photo…

  3. Either I’m missing something or this is 100% lame. “world’s smallest non-production brewery “. Is that like a non-producing factory? And basically every guy who buys one of those small home-brewing kits at Whole Foods is also a world’s smallest brewer. I made a sandwich last night, making me the worlds smallest restaurant chain.
