Who needs to go to D.C. to see the inauguration? You can celebrate a whole weekend of Obama fun on Dekalb Avenue. Twenty-eight restaurants, cafes, boutiques, and retail stores of the Dekalb Avenue Merchants’ Association invite you to “Celebrate the Inauguration on Dekalb” starting Friday, January 16 through Tuesday, January 20. Participating businesses will be offering special discounts, coupons, reduced-price prix-fixe menus, and more all weekend long. On Tuesday, some places will be opening early to broadcast the ceremony on their big screen TVs. Guess it’s inspired by Shepard Fairey’s “Hope” poster (you you might recognize his work from all those Andre the Giant “Obey” stickers / posters / tags around NYC…). His style borrows hard from the Russian constructivists like Aleksandr Rodchenko.

Utilities, I hope. I hate National Grid. Has anyone else noticed that they’ve switched to monthly billing as a way to hide the fact that they’re charging you more? They now have an 82 cent “billing charge.” Even if this wasn’t broken out separately before, they’ve still doubled their revenues there via the switch (in addition to the increase cost to the environment of doubling the paper output).
