The appeal is that it’s cheap.
Sigh. All the cool kids are gone off of Smith st.
That is exciting.
Every year the Eater is irrationally exhuberant about a cramped place to drink out of styrofoam. color me bemused.
“On the other hand, it is basically a small dive bar that happens to be outdoors,”
Yeah – there are definitely other bars with better outdoor space and a better selection of beer/liquor. There’s just something about it that makes me happy
oh it’s an actual airing out of the furniture? hahaha. and it’s not an actual yacht club either i see now. but outdoor patios for drinking are always a good thing

We had a ritual “Stepping on the Coat” ceremony to welcome spring,at Binghamton. The ritual coat was kept under lock and key until the proper time and I think is still in use. They only allow one footstep on the coat by the designated High Coat Stepper.
I get that GYC appeals to a certain set, which is cool … and I’ve certainly had some fun times there. On the other hand, it is basically a small dive bar that happens to be outdoors, so hard for me to get too excited about GYC vs. any other bar with a patio/garden.
If one takes the “ritualistic airing out of the furniture” as a broader sign outdoor drinking season is around the corner, then that is indeed exciting.
all that stuff is free for the taking??!
