bodhi – that lot on Union (at Ainslie, I think) is still sitting there. The steel went up in 2000 or 2001 and there hasn’t been a lick of work since.
The Chocolate Factory apartments on Park (next to the BQE) stood vacant and half-built for at least a decade. A renovation was started in the late 80s, stalled, and didn’t pick up again until early 2001. All through the 90s, the building was open with just the new steel-stud visible on the interior. Since it was right next to the BQE, it made a pretty bizarre sight.
charles nelson riley for the block
I though you had you sights set on Paul Lynde???
“I’ll take Charlie Weaver in the bottom left for the “X””
LOL, Dave. And I’ll take Rose Marie in the center square to block.
“rob, when i lived in williamsburg there was a lot just like this on union street that just sat there and rotted for three years.”
Most of them are done now and trying (unsuccessfully) to get tenants!!
$2000 a month studio anyone?
rob, when i lived in williamsburg there was a lot just like this on union street that just sat there and rotted for three years.
it will go into bankruptcy, someone will buy it cheap enuf for it to be finished and economically viable. It may take a while, of course.
so what actually does happen to abandoned sites like these? do they just sit and rot? did things like this happen in the last real estate crash?
*rob*
Just another example of over zealous developers ruining Brooklyn!
