The City has OK’d the expansion of McCarren Park by 33,800 square feet, DNAinfo reported. The new greenspace will come out of a road slicing through the park. Union Avenue between Driggs and North 12th Street, above, will be transformed into a plaza that will connect two parts of the park. The Parks Department may close off the street and turn it into a temporary plaza as early as summer of 2014 while it seeks funding for a permanent reconstruction, the story said. The Department of Transportation and the Open Space Alliance are helping with the project.

Would be nice to repair the sidewalks along leonard st and fix up/get rid of the fences along the backside of the pool before we spend more $$$ over there.
