Community Board 6which covers Carroll Gardens, Gowanus, Cobble Hill, Red Hook and Park Slopeis starting to work on a couple of initiatives meant to address the district’s continued wave of development, according to Chairperson Richard Bashner. The preliminary ideas, which were announced at this week’s general board meeting, include coming up with a process to make it easier for people to report construction violations and trying to ensure that all contractors working in the district follow a to-be-determined code of conduct. The power-to-the-people initiative may involve generating a standardized violation checklist that would be distributed to CB6 residents. The idea would allow the man/woman on the street to use the form to tick off violations they notice at construction sites and then submit the checklist to CB6 or the city. The initiative targeted at contractors, meanwhile, is likely to encourage (or possibly demand) that developers require work crews to follow certain practices, and it’s going to be fine-tuned by CB6 subcommittees in upcoming months. Think these ideas will help curb irresponsible development?
Calls for a CB6 Buildings Oversight Committee [Brownstoner]
Remember each and every time you call 311 you will have to pay more for your, and your children’s new condos, and you property’s values will dip as you scare away investment in our neighborhoods. don’t forget what cobble hill looked like 12 years ago, not much different then red hook.
Although I should add I remember reading some of the CGNA have been doing this for the past year or so in a more 311 related way.
Perhaps this is also a response to the CGNA and CM de Blassio and not a tip-o-the hat to CB7.
Doesn’t this type of oversight already exist within CB7’s Buildings & Construction Subcomittee I have read about here on brownstoner and on GL?
Are is CB7 the model for CB6?
Seems like a decent idea from my pov, as long it’s not just lip service to the public. Needs a committee to be effective, no?
We need to preserve Carroll Gardens Now
Oh yay, it’s one of the creepy “protectors of Brownstoner” at 11:41. Do you not have friends? Is that why you think this blog needs your help? If you do think that, then it’s the blog that’s the truly helpless party.
Those at Brownstoner can defend themselves. Actually, speaking of defending oneself, maybe that really is Gabby at 11:41. It IS her job to provoke fights, so it would make sense.
@11:35 CB6 is the center of the Universe and the point where the axis of the earth revolves around.
As far as the standardized complaint form goes sounds like a good idea, at least for the complaint prone residents. Typical not in my backyard thought process.
I hope all the activists choke the life out of the area and the new “now its safe to live here” go back to the midwest.
@11:41 Angry white man strikes again? Get up from the computer, get yourself dressed and make sure your burn out kids comb their hair before they go to school.
The check list should include the specific phrasing used by the Buildings Dept specialists at 311. When you make a call the 311 tech person has to “guess” as to what or how your complaint fits into their official limited check list. Try making a call to 311 about “buildings not conforming to zoning” or to “not according to plans files” by the developer… you can smell the Techs brain melting into the phone. Also try requesting to actually meet with the inspector when he comes… imposible. Even saying I can be available anytime for the next week, 24/7 still can’t do it. Two inspections without gaining acess and they write it off as “resolved”. What ever happened to the mayors plan for mobile phone pictures to document unlawful conditions/work?
11.35 you are pretty helpless aren’t you? Do you want us to chew your food for you too? You’re so lazy, do you want me to f**k your wife for you too? Google it. It’s not that hard and the time you spent b*tching and complaining about it, you would have found the answer.
11.35 The winner of the most helpless a**hat award!
How do we know which neighborhood is CB6?
Do we have to do the research ourselves?
