The annual opportunity for the architecturally curious to get a glimpse inside some of the private residences of Bed Stuy returns with the 47th edition of the Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant house tour. The tour typically features a dozen or so residences with original features, modern updates, and work in progress to showcase the creativity of the neighborhood.
Tour goers can glean ideas for renovation and restoration, and owners are usually on hand to share battle stories, renovation tips, and recommendations.
The signature event for the civic-minded organization went virtual in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, providing supporters with a guided video tour of a handful of houses within the historic neighborhood. It returned to an in-person format in 2023 when, despite rainy weather, enthusiastic participants toured through houses, eyeing period ornament and some recently completed renovations.

This year the self-guided tour will take place on Saturday, October 18. The event was the first initiative of Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant, which was founded in 1978. In addition to building a community to foster Bed Stuy’s culture and heritage, the tour also raises funds for scholarships. A portion of the proceeds from the tour will support the college dreams of students at Boys and Girls High School and Brooklyn Academy High School.
The day begins with a free homeownership workshop from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and then the house tour runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. To find out which houses are on the tour you will need to have a ticket and check in at the starting point at Boys and Girls High School at 1700 Fulton Street. Ticket holders will receive a brochure with all the details; the brochure is required for entry into each of the homes on the tour.
Tickets are available online for $40 (plus a service fee) or at select local businesses until October 17. Tickets on the day of the tour will be $45. For more information about the event and to purchase a ticket, visit the event page online.
