We found our first post, called “Where It’s At,” thanks to a reader’s comment today that linked to the Internet’s Way Back Machine.

Here’s what we said:

Team Brownstoner is completely addicted to brownstones in Brooklyn. We just spent the past six months immersing ourselves in the market, finally buying one last month. We know, peak of the market, blah, blah, blah, but in the end the family needs a place to live. The cramped rental in over-priced Williamsburg just wasn’t cutting it. So we wound up buying an old SRO in Clinton Hill and will now spend the next year or so renovating it. In this space, we’ll continue to monitor new listings, articles, internet resources, etc. that pertain to buying and renovating historic brownstones in Brooklyn. We’ll see how it goes.

It sounds a lot like today, doesn’t it? Except prices in Clinton Hill have more than doubled since that day, Tuesday, October 12, 2004. One person made a comment.

We put up four other posts that day, on topics ranging from a Crown Heights beauty for sale to an article on “ethnic map shifting.”

One post concerned a price cut on the rambling wood-frame house at 86 Cambridge Place in Clinton Hill. We said it “starting to look interesting at $1,690,000,” down from an initial ask of $2,100,000. Well, as readers may recall, the property closed two weeks ago for $4,100,000 and set a record for Clinton Hill, which will probably be eclipsed soon.

Here’s the first month of posts.

Plus ca change…
