Chow Down on Oysters at Brooklyn Bridge Park's Oyster Riot
The Brooklyn Oyster Riot kicks off New York Oyster Week with fun, games, seafood and drink overlooking the East River in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

There will be music, fun and games and delicious seafood and drinks at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s Brooklyn Oyster Riot, an annual fundraiser.
But oysters are the star of the show. Two dozen varieties of east and west coast oysters will be shucked live by “some of New York City’s finest shuckers,” according to the event writeup, overlooking the East River. There will also be clams Provençal and grilled coconut curry mussels by Ditch Plains Chef Marc Murphy.

Americana band Jan Bell and the Maybelles will perform, and the John Street lawn will have plenty of games. You can also learn something about oysters and their lives and history as the Billion Oyster Project and the Conservancy will be on hand to chat about lifecycle of east coast oysters, oyster shell recycling and the Hudson River estuary (which used to teem with the bivalves).
The party will take place in John Street Park in Brooklyn Bridge Park, just north of the Manhattan Bridge. The event marks the beginning of New York Oyster Week.
