Brooklyn Night Photography On Display In Fort Greene

In a city that moves so much, taking clear long-exposure shots is no easy feat.

Not For Tourists co-founder Rob Tallia has captured Brooklyn at night in a series of six images where the shutter was open for at least 30 seconds in each picture. By using this process, Tallia brings out the “magic” of Brooklyn’s landscape. “The water turns smooth as glass, small lights develop their own ‘star’ effect, leaves blur — and people, if there are any in the frame to begin with, generally disappear,” Tallia says of his photos in an artist statement.

Five out of six of the images were taken in Brooklyn Bridge Park, with the sixth taken outside of Brooklyn, from Liberty State Park in New Jersey, back in 2013.

The photos will be on a view at a night photography show called “Six Nights” at Fort Greene’s Baguetteaboudit Cafe at 270 Vanderbilt Avenue. The opening-night event is from 6-8 p.m. on September 25, and the show will run until October 31.

The cafe, whose website declares it’s Where Paris Meets Brooklyn, has a menu offering challah French toast all day, as well as various crepes and sandwiches inspired by traditional French recipes.
