Former Newspaper Building on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill to Be Razed for Apartments
An old Atlantic Avenue factory building that once housed the Brooklyn Daily Times may soon be torn down to make way for a new eight-story mixed-use development with 159 apartments, city records show.
The five-story early 20th century brick structure at 540 Atlantic Avenue and a connected single-story building were recently purchased by local developer Jacob Schwimmer, who has filed a demolition permit for the existing complex and a new-building permit for a new mixed-use development.

Park Slope Prewar Condo With Arches, Plaster, Herringbone Asks $725K
A one-bedroom with a spacious layout has a number of appealing prewar features, including arched openings, plaster walls, herringbone floors, and original doors. It’s located at 425 14th Street, a 29-unit four-story walkup in the Park Slope Historic District Extension not far from Prospect Park.
The golden yellow brick building’s Art Deco details include a snazzy front entrance surround and iron and glass door. Designed by architect William E. Martin, it was built by the Natoma Development Corp. in 1930, according to the Landmarks Preservation Commission and notices and newspaper accounts of the time.

An affordable housing lottery has launched for 36 apartments in a long-in-the-works tower on the corner of 4th Avenue and Dean Street in Park Slope. Dubbed Signum, the glassy, 143-unit mixed-use building will be one of 4th Avenue’s taller developments at 17 stories.

Bay Ridge Locals Slam ‘City of Yes’ Zoning Proposal as ‘Irresponsible and Unacceptable’
The Adams administration’s citywide, business-focused zoning proposal was met with skepticism at a November 29 meeting of Community Board 10.
“City of Yes for Economic Opportunity” is the second of three parts of the massive “City of Yes” project. It proposes changes to zoning regulations and restrictions that the Adams administration says would foster economic growth by making it easier for different kinds of businesses to open and expand.
