Learn about the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s past and check out the present with a unique tour of the green roofs, gardens and solar installations found on the rooftops of the complex.
Brooklyn Navy Yard, established in 1801, was once one of the nation’s premier naval shipbuilding facilities and was in operation until 1966. The site has most recently been repurposed into a campus for tech and innovation, housing dozens of businesses, many geared towards the creativity that’s become synonymous with Brooklyn.

Hosted by the New York Adventure Club and Turnstile Tours, the tour will include visits to Brooklyn Grange Farm — the country’s largest soil-based rooftop commercial farm — a look at the different types of green roofs that dot the complex, and a climb to the top of the Navy Yard’s headquarters building. Comfortable shoes are recommended for all that stair climbing.

The exploration of the complex will conclude at Rooftop Reds, the first commercial rooftop vineyard in New York City. Shuttle buses will be available for transportation between locations.
The tour will take place on Saturday July 15 at 11 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. To enjoy a glass of wine at the conclusion of the tour, participants must be 21 or over. To learn more about the event or to purchase tickets, click here.
