Get ready to make a dash through the borough’s scenic waterfront with the Brooklyn Greenway Initiative’s half marathon and 5K event this October.
Participants will take off on a journey along the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway from Red Hook to Greenpoint and back. Those taking on the half marathon (13.1 miles) will be able to take in skyline views and the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The 5K run and walk (3.1 miles) offer up some views as well, with a route that winds through Brooklyn Bridge Park. There’s also a new addition this year with the “Greenway Replay,” a 5K and half marathon combo.

Since 2012, the event has been hosted by Brooklyn Greenway Initiative, a nonprofit organization that advocates for the completion of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. The pedestrian and cycling path will eventually stretch 26 miles from Greenpoint to Bay Ridge — roughly 18 miles are currently in use and more segments are under construction.
The race takes place on Sunday, October 6 and will kick off at 168 Columbia Street. The 5K run and walk begin at 8:30 a.m. and the half marathon at 9:35 a.m. For more information or to register click here. Brownstoner is a media sponsor of this event.
