The Brooklyn Building Awards winners were announced yesterday by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. Here they are:

• Civic and Institutional Category — Atlantic Terminal
• Economic Development Category — IAVI Design & Development Laboratory
• Educational Category — The Juliana Curran Terian Pratt Pavilion
• Historic Preservation Category — Congregation Beth Elohim Exterior
• Industrial Category — Remains Lighting
• National Grid Award for Energy Efficiency — Toren
• Retail Category — Brooklyn Bowl
• Residential Affordable Category — Schermerhorn House
• Small Scale Residential Category — The Silhouette
• Residential: Multi-Family Category — 80 Metropolitan

Two individuals—David Kramer of The Hudson Companies (and Third & Bond blog) fame) and Downtown Brooklyn Partnership head Joe Chan—will also be honored at the July 15 ceremonies.

Actually, I think the residential affordable deserved to win (pictured above) Considering all the very bad stuff going up in bklyn these days, fedders this and fedders that, here is a project that asthetically at least, looks damn good. It’s a great example of affordable housing proving that it doesn’t have to look cheap to be cheap.
