The opening ceremony for Brooklyn Bridge Park got underway a few minutes ago at the recently completed Pier 1. Just about everybody with any connection to city or state government or parks was there, as these photos attest. To coincide with the park launch, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation has a new swanky website up this morning.

  1. We went to the park on Good Friday and while the Park was great, there were about 4 helicopters flying around Manhattan and the River all day long, thus making noise which in turn took the serenity out of being in the park. It was annoying that we couldn’t even stand it anymore and went home.

  2. Wonderful, but you know, we in Fort Greene don’t care because we have always had our own slice of heaven! Same could be said for people in Park Slope. Brooklyn Heights has finally caught up.

  3. I checked it out a couple of weeks ago and the park is very dramatic. The entire river and bay really feel like a part of it. Sunsets will probably be gorgeous from the steps. Naturally the experience will be even nicer once the trees grow in. It is odd to be in a park with only baby trees. It is really a whole new thing.

  4. I can’t wait to finally check it out. I park my car at 1BBP now, and I walked by Pier 6 yesterday, which I think is supposed to open in a month or so. It looks fantastic! Looks like there’s going to be a great kids’ playground there.
