Sometimes there’s nothing better than relaxing at home with an epic beer. Since Bierkraft is now sadly closed, try these beer shops to stock up.

St. Gambrinus (Boerum Hill) is a bar/bottle shop hybrid, with 16 beers on tap and over 150 bottles of craft-only beer. They also offer draft beer to go in growler form. The best way to enjoy St. Gambrinus is to grab a draft, sit in their quant backyard, then buy some bottles for home. They also offer guided tastings for those wanting to increase their beer knowledge.

Covenhoven (Crown Heights)
If you want to dig deep into craft beer, Covenhoven is the place to go. With 16 taps and over 100 bottles, there’s something for everyone. The friendly and knowledgeable bartenders don’t skimp on free samples, and a large refrigerated bottles section means you don’t have to wait long once you get home to pop open your brew.

Whole Foods Market (Gowanus)
Need some beer and organic kale? Head to Gowanus, where Whole Foods has beer for every taste. Their huge refrigerated bottle collection includes Evil Twin’s Even More Denmark, a stout brewed with chocolate available exclusively at Whole Foods locations. Around the corner from the bottles is a growler fill station. Upstairs, you’ll find The Roof, a craft beer bar with a pub-style menu, and an outdoor space overlooking the Gowanus Canal and Manhattan.

Here you’ll find a beer wholesaler open to the public. Bed-Stuy Beer Works has everything from the standard to the obscure, available in bottles, cans, cases and even kegs, five of which are rotated for growler purchases. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, a must here due to the sheer size of the selection.

Beer, cheese, charcuterie, and artisanal snacks are the focuses here, and they nail all of them. A selection of bottled beer, along with 12 taps (growler fills only), includes both locals and rarities. They’re generous with their samples, on point with their knowledge, and even have a “ham bar”!
