As we reported at the time, the unpopular and unsightly bail bonds office that appeared last September below the Nu Hotel at the corner of Smith and State Streets in Boerum Hill shut its doors in November, posting a sign that it would reopen “next year.” Well, it’s next year, and an eagle-eyed tipster spotted the beginnings of an interior renovation at the storefront. Don’t get your hopes up for anything with a lot of curb appeal.

when I walked by tonight…posted permits were issued in March…so nothing moving very quickly.
thread last time about this had comment from person that lived in building…maybe he can fill us in on what is happening.
Brooklyn chicken….why blame the hotel—they are just another leasee in the bldg…I’m sure if they any say in matter would not have welcomed them.
“This is it? Looks like a Corcoran office to me. Is there a difference?”
The bail bonds office is more reputable?
i have nothing against bail bonds businesses but their signage should be limited … i.e no blinking neon and nothing larger than 2 ft x 3 ft.

at least it isn’t something evil like Duane Reade or Chase.
What kind of curb appeal is a Bail Bond office supposed to have? Period-appropriate handcuffs in the windows? Photos of someone being pulled over in their horse and buggy? I think this looks fine.

Schermerhorn Street between Smith and Boerum Place. Or so I have been told.
*cue snark machine*
Actually, I walked by it for years before I realized what it was (4/5 is closest to work on the other side of the river).
Nice sidewalk extension
Such a just ending for a craptastic building. When Boymelgreen built 75 Smith there was always at least one inflatable rat out front. Once (I guess nobody else rented them that day) I saw four different colored rodents getting inflated on my way to Borough Hall. It was just like being on 77th during the Macy’s Parade inflation.
Sort of.
