Good news for drivers in the area. GMAP
I guess gas is better than no gas here, but I must admit I was glad when I saw this place close down,..sorry to hear the repair shop has remained open.
I took my car there for inspection once a few years back,..turns out i “needed” new brakes,..then when I picked up my car I neglected to check all 4 tires,..the one I didnt check came off right on the road while I was driving! They didnt put back the lug nuts! None of em! My fault for not checking each tire but goodness you’d assume they would put the lug nuts back on. They suck. Never again.
Thank god the pumps will be open again. It’s the last operating gas station in the neighborhood. The disappearance of the Mobil on the corner of Atlantic and Boerum Place was a big loss to us car owners. The bigger loss was the Mobil on Flatbush that is in the footprint of the Atlantic Yards project. That was the only honest mechanic left in the area. And that Mobil supported 5 Korean families. I wonder where they are working now.
the guys who run this ship are grade a scumbag. their prices are always 30-40 cents higher than hamilton ave, and the last time i brought my car in for inspection, the guy told me i needed $800 of repairs to make my car “passable”. i immediately took it to some dude on 4th ave and he passed it without question.
danny you are right, the shop is still open. a friend just got his car fixed (hopefully) there the other day…………
hey b.o.d
it definitely remained open in the beginning when they first started digging it up – had a big sign saying “repair shop still open” etc.. i walk by there every day but don’t pay much attention. will look again today. if you’re judging by the picture, there used to be access to the garage way on the left. maybe it’s fully closed now.
and yes.. i go to the smith/hamilton gas station now. but i’ll pay a little extra to fill up here. i’m lazy.
I believe the gas station and the garage were run, and possibly owned, by different people.
Gas Stations suck.
terrible neighbors
especially if you don’t have a car.
These guys are notorious. I’ve heard nothing but bad news about this station for years. Unfortunately, they’ve got a few tow-trucks, and they’re the closest garage for many people. The Gulf station at Hicks and Rapeleye, or Fulton Repair near Furman are much more honest for basic repairs.
not sure how the repair shop could remain open since the whole thing is behind a plywood fence, but whatev’s. BEWARE BEWARE.
And danny, yes, i do agree that the nabe needs a gas station. FYI, the mobil at the bottom of smith has the cheapest name brand gas around.
