Comment of the Day
I am the decendant of the (Buckley) family that were tenant farmers for the Kouwenhovens. The Buckleys lived just up the road at 5 Kouwenhoven Pl, thought to be their original Kouwenhoven home built pre Revolutionary War. My grandfather Gil Buckley, Sr., who was born in the house used to call this the “Mansion on the Hill”. A good friend of mines father was with the FDNY when the old mansion was badly damaged by fire in 1962. He pulled newspapers dating to the 1880’s from behind the walls and under the floorboards that were used as insulation. They were given to me as a momento a few years ago.
