The annual all-nighter for brainiacs is back with more thought-provoking events.
“A Night of Philosophy and Ideas,” an all-night marathon of philosophical debate, performances, screenings, readings and music at the Brooklyn Public Library, will kick off with a keynote address from New York Times magazine columnist Kwame Anthony Appiah.
Other participants include the novelist Colm Tóibín discussing myth and masculinity, Muhammad Nomi Naeem will talk about Michel Foucault and Buddhism, Anastasia Colosimo will debate blasphemy and freedom of expression. And that’s only scratching the surface.

Chinese documentarian Wang Bing’s installation “15 Hours” will be on display, and there will be a screen of Chris Marker’s “The Owl’s Legacy.” If you’re looking for something more lively, there is a puppet play by Pedro Reyes called “Manufacturing Mischief” that features fictionalized versions of Noam Chomsky, Ayn Rand and Elon Musk.
Everything begins on February 2 at 7 p.m. and is free. For the full list of talks, performances and screenings, click here. In case you’re wondering, complimentary caffeine courtesy of Nespresso will be served all night.
