Developer GFI has been working to gradually reposition and fill the commercial space at 470 Vanderbilt while it tries to gain approval for a residential building fronting on Fulton Street. Last July, the developer announced that it had leased the second floor to the NYC Housing Authority. According to its website, a Quaker school called the Mary McDowell Center for Learning has taken space on the 8th, 9th and 10th floors for its new Upper School location. The plans, including the creation of a basketball court, are online here. That should be a nice shot of life for the area. GMAP

  1. That’s great news. Hope it all works out for the school.

Saw on The Local that “Fulton Grand Bar” got approval for a liquor license, along with Buka, the soon to open Nigerian Place on Fulton Street accross from Met Foods.

From what I hear in the local shops, the Fulton Grand Bar will be on Grand, between Fulton and Putnam, facing the itersection. I heard that the people developing it already run a bar or two. Hopefully it will be good. It looks like it is taking over the entire store frontage facing the intersection. I hear their are potential plans for doing something with the intersection from a beautification point of view with more plantings etc.

Also heard there is a creperie in the works for Fulton Street in Clinton Hill, but no details on where or by whom, if that is true.

  2. I was joking… Quaker schools are great. The only Quaker that I know about that was someone to worry about was Richard Nixon.

But I do hear they really force the kids to eat way too much oatmeal! 🙂
