A homeowner has decided to take advantage of an empty rental apartment in their three-family home to increase their own living space. The plan is to convert the kitchen of the rental into a bedroom but the homeowner wants to make sure that the work won’t adversely impact their certificate of occupancy. Is capping off the utilities so the space can be converted back to a kitchen if needed the best option? What else should they consider?
Please chime in with your advice.
