This four-story brownstone at 125 Halsey Street in Bed Stuy has lately been used as an SRO, and needs to be reconfigured into a one-, two- or three-family home. Other work may well be needed, but there’s nice potential here, with some prime period detail. The rowhouse was built circa 1899 and is located within the Bedford Historic District.
The photos are limited, but they show oak wainscoting and other fine woodwork in the hallway, decorative fireplaces with Minton-style tile, a pier mirror, and some original moldings. (Not, alas, original floors, except in the front hallway.)
As it stands, the 17-foot-wide house is set up with one-bedroom floor-through apartments on the garden and parlor floors and four studio apartments on the floors above. No kitchens or baths are pictured.

The facade was recently restored; other than that the listing offers no details about the house’s condition. It does tells us that the current owner has an application pending for a Certificate of No Harassment, which any buyer would be wise to secure before applying for a construction loan. Otherwise, this is going to need an all-cash deal.
Listed by Ban Leow and Howard Ramlal of Halstead, the house is asking $1.699 million. Sound like a lot for a place in need of work, or does it seem on target?
