When we cycled past the new Jonathan Adler shop at 378 Atlantic Avenue on Friday (whose planned opening we’d reported last month), we thought things were looking pretty pulled together so we decided to snap this photo. Turns out our hunch was right: A tipster reported, and we confirmed with a phone call, that the shop opened yesterday, a day ahead of schedule. Good times! (If anyone happens to be walking past today and can get a photo of the interior, we’d love to post it.) Update: A reader just sent in a photo of the window display that we’ve posted on the jump.

  1. I’m glad that there’s some love for JA amongst the haters. Have met him in the West Village shop and he’s genuinely super sweet and very charming. Also, his partner is Simon Doonan (creative director of Barney’s forever) who is amazingly witty and hilarious. Love them both. They can do no wrong. 🙂

  2. I like Winblad too bxgrl, there’s something so good natured and kinda dopey about those face vases. “Homage” is a gracious way to put it 😉

  3. bridges- I love Bjorn Winblad!- my aunt collected him back in the 60’s and I have one piece, my sister has the rest. (cats and ceramics- not do good). I agree- he does it with flair- but he’s still knocking off someone else’s originality. Call it homage, maybe 🙂

  4. Although I do have to say, Adler does channel the ceramics and styles of the 50’s and of Danish and Scandinavian ceramicists. I do like his work (especially his bowls) but I don’t find him particularly original.
