The Brooklyn Botanic Garden yesterday announced the winners of the 2010 Greenest Block awards. In the residential category, the honors went to Vanderveer Place between Flatbush Avenue and East 23rd Street in Flatbush (above); in the commercial category, the winner was Hoyt Street between State Street and Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill (photo on the jump).   1. Seems like that block on Hoyt always gussies up right before the judging. Sticking a bunch of potted plants out to win a contest is kinda lame.

  2. Based on the winning blocks that I am familiar with, this appears to be the botanical equivalent of the “Best Xmas Lights In Brooklyn” contest, with plants sitting in for tinsels and Santas.

  5. I’m always surprised that that block of Hoyt wins year after year. I mean, I *love* that they always make an effort and the block is very pleasant (I live nearby and walk there daily), but the best in all of Brooklyn? Makes me think other commercial blocks aren’t bothering at all…
