Bed Stuy Alive! Returns for 11th Year of Community Building

    by

Bed Stuy Alive! kicks off its 11th annual daylong celebration of the Central Brooklyn neighborhood’s diversity this month. The one-day festival on Saturday, October 10, will be followed by a week’s worth of community events.

The kickoff event will take place between Brooklyn and New York avenues, an appropriate sandwiching of streets analogous to the festival’s representation of Brooklyn and New York’s communities rich with culture. An opening ceremony will honor local NYPD officers working out of the 81st and 79th precincts with the Tohma Y. Faulkner Awards for service, DNA reported.

The community-packed day includes a children’s village, featuring rock wall, face painting, crafts and a Game Mobile, as well as a food court with delicacies supplied by local chefs. There will be a health zone providing family screenings, and a Bed Stuy Helps program where local representatives will talk to locals, and residents can register to vote and sign up children for pre-K and after-school services.

The Bed Stuy marketplace will have vendor booths open all day.
