7 Fastest Brand BrooklynVice’s Williamsburg office

It’s not just Brooklyn the brand that’s expanding — so are borough based companies.

In this year’s annual ranking of New York’s 50 fastest growing businesses, Crain’s has named seven in Brooklyn, more than double the amount named in any other outer borough or Jersey.

Highest ranking of the Brooklyn named brands was Sunset Park based natural gas and electricity supplier Marathon Power. A subsidiary of heating-oil magnate Marathon Energy, the company made $32,700,000 in 2014, a 2,674 percent increase from their 2011 revenue rates. With just 15 total employees, the company was not alone in being hugely successful with a small number of staffers.

Easily the most stereotypically Brooklyn of the ranking businesses is Aden + Anais Inc., a Dumbo-based muslin swaddle and baby bath product company. Owned by Australian mother of four Raegan Moya-Jones, the company’s 100 percent cotton blankets have swaddled royal baby Prince George and other celebrity children.

Shane Smith’s edgy media empire Vice also made the list, having had an estimated 400 percent growth rate since 2011. The Williamsburg based startup is known for its counter cultural style of journalism — and for pricing out Beacon’s Closet to Greenpoint by leasing their former North 11th Street outlet as well as closing music venues Death by Audio and Glasslands by buying their buildings to convert to offices.

Other Brooklyn companies to make the list were real estate mortgage broker Eastern Union Funding in Marine Park, Borough Park’s Regal Wings wholesale airfare marketing business, and ProjectSpan Services custom electric services in Greenpoint.

To put Brooklyn’s seven high-ranking businesses in perspective, Manhattan had the most qualifying companies by a landslide, with eight in the Flatiron District alone

Here are Brooklyn’s seven fastest growing companies listed in order of fastest growing, based on percent change in revenue growth from 2011 to 2014:
