On Thursday, The New York Post’s Page Six published pictures of First Daughter Malia Obama hanging out on the set of HBO’s “Girls” at a Williamsburg restaurant. Though it appears that the First Daughter was doing nothing but sipping on some kind of blue drink, rumor has it she is an intern on the show.

According to a source quoted in Us Weekly, “She’s a fan, and she mentioned that to Lena [Dunham] when she came to the White House…. I’m not sure how long she’ll be interning for. It’s a bit of a trial thing for her. They’ve known each other and discussed for a while. Lena and her get along great.”

Last year she worked as a production assistant on the CBS show Extant, starring Halle Berry.

Malia just turned 17 on July 4 (because America) and has one more year to go at the private Sidwell Friends School in D.C. before heading off to college. She’s been seen with her family touring NYU, Columbia, Stanford, and UC Berkeley.

The Thursday film shoot took place at Aurora, an Italian restaurant on Grand Street that the Post described as a “hipster haven.” Last time we were there it was full of 30- and 40-somethings quietly enjoying Italian food, but presumably on Saturday nights they fill the place with foam and someone spins complextro records.

“Dunham + Obama + America + July 4th + Brooklyn? This is the stuff of conservative conspiracy theorist fever dreams,” said Ben Yakas at Gothamist. The conservative blogosphere seems to be pretty quiet about it so far, other than Breitbart.com reminding us of all the ways Lena Dunham is a morally bankrupt degenerate.

  1. Good grief Brownstoner. Just when I thought i could not possibly get any worse. Us Weekly…talking about POTUS 17 year old daughter. Keeping it classy.

  2. It’s okay — you can be a liberal and not have to stick up for the Obamas at every single opportunity… OF COURSE she wants to be a celebrity. Do you think you go after an internship for the (awful) show Girls, if you are not interested in celebrity?
