A decidedly modern take on Brooklyn’s new-townhouse trend, the six Townhouses of Wythe Lane have reached the third floor at 51 South 4th Street in Williamsburg. Marketing started before the first shovel broke ground here, in October last year, as we reported at the time.

Only two of the six townhouses formally hit the market with a listing (Nos. 3 and 4), but five are in contract, according to the development’s official website.

The previously published renderings show gray brick with large windows and a strong, simple design. Carefully planned greenery, such as a trellis going up the side and over the roof terrace, serves as architectural detail.

At ground level, privacy is maintained by a setback. Unfortunately, passerby will be greeted by a blank wall concealing parking, but it’s softened by plantings on the terrace above.

The interiors are just as thoughtfully minimalist and modern, with wood floors and ceilings and white cabinetry in carefully planned spaces, as previously published renderings show.

The developer is real estate investment firm KUB Capital, which handles acquisitions, management and development. Helmed by principals Shawn Katz and Roger Bittenbender, KUB’s other Brooklyn projects include a contemporary concrete building at 253 Pacific Street and a renovated 1850s townhouse at 489 Henry Street.

The design team is a collaboration between KUB’s in-house design team, KUB Design, and SZ Projects. Silvia Zofio founded SZ Projects and worked on the design of Lure Fishbar and a townhouse at 3 East 94th Street, both in Manhattan. Future Green Studio of Brooklyn designed the landscaping, which is an integral part of the overall building design.

The townhouses replaced a former scrap metal site in this once-industrial section of Williamsburg close to the BQE and Williamsburg Bridge.

The site necessarily was still through the winter, and then the foundation was well along in May, as we saw when we stopped by at the time.

For now, they enjoy an unparalleled view of the Williamsburg Bridge, sky and the 1880s Domino factory. Next door Two Trees is still not far along with the foundation of its first tower on Site E, which will be 100 percent affordable.

The townhouses are part of a new building trend in Brooklyn to revive the townhouse, whether modern or traditional in style. Others include the 12 Williamsburg Social Townhouses on North 3rd between Berry and Bedford, long filled since they debuted in 2013.
