House of the Day: 112 Nevins Street

Located behind the 19th century brick facade of what the listing says was once a carriage house is a light filled modern rustic one-family house. There are exposed beams, painted cabinetry, industrial style subway tile, a hand-forged steel and wood staircase, central air, a rear wall of windows, colorful bathrooms and a landscaped garden.

The whole thing is less than 900 square feet, according to PropertyShark, and so the top floor is a kind of suite, with two bedrooms and a bathroom opening onto each other. Another bedroom is located in the basement, which is partly below grade, but there is a window. What do you think of the style and the ask of $1,950,000?

  • $2,166 / SF on Nevins across from PS 38???!!! A pig is flying past my window.

  • l800-900sf above grade plus that lower level rec space, which looks way better than the usual tiled dungeon… price/sf is very aggressive, but it’s a pretty gorgeous renovation. sure it’s small, but how else can you get a single family home in this kind of neighborhood for under $2mil?

  • Crazy price — b-u-b-b-l-e. Outrageous ask

  • It’s really beautiful, but that is a lot of money to pay for something that has only one real, normal bedroom. For 1.9, I have to think that you don’t want to share a bathroom with the kids – much less share a floor with an window into the shower with the kids. (Also those shower windows – I just don’t get them. You’ll give the folks with houses on Dean and Pacific quite the show with those huge windows to the back of the house).

It would really just suit a small family with one very small child, or a family with a preteen/teen who is fine with sleeping in the basement.
