House of the Day: 274 Carroll Street

This single-family Carroll Gardens brownstone at 274 Carroll Street has retained most of its original grandeur, with 12-foot-high parlor ceilings, a wood burning fireplace, etched glass doors, moldings, and so on. There are at least four bedrooms and a deep front garden. The listing notes there are “additional kitchen facilities” in an “upstairs playroom,” but does not show them on the floor plan. How do you like it for $3,100,000?

Golly, if I had as many dollars as books, I would still find this place pricey. Oh, but I get weak in the knees when I look at that book-lined room. I never met a person who had a book-filled house with whom I couldn’t sit down and enjoy a cocktail. Terrific house. If the library wasn’t enough to make me Chesterfield green with envy, the term “additional kitchen facilities” makes my mouth water. One can never have enough refrigerators.

Heh, too bad that according to the Brownstoner Listing, it has 0 bedrooms and 0 baths. Anyone else notice that many of the Brownstoner listings seem to have maps showing that the houses are in foreign countries? Sigh.

Doesn’t it seem like as prices for brownstones continue to skyrocket, the listings are often riddled with errors, typos, and photos that would have made Louis Daguerre give up his invention? I’ve seen books in braille with better pictures than some multi-million dollar house listings.
I assume the room number error and the map issue is either technical error or laziness.
