Pardon Me For Asking has documented the before-and-after shots at 441 Carroll Street, where a new two-family brick house has replaced an old aluminum clad (but probably once wood) house. While lacking any over-the-top flourishes to make it completely mock-worthy, the final result is still an architectural head-scratcher. A mish-mash of architectural styles and elements which ends up looking out of place and begging the question, “Why?” Two thumbs down from us, though all five comments on PMFA are positive (as are most of the comments on Curbed). 1. I like it. I would like the window frames darker and perhaps at least part of the setback could be landscaped, but I think it has a lot of charm. I think the snark from brownstoner was unwarranted.

    • I like this house, its unique, and there is a parking space , which is definitly a plus in the area… The windows on the side on the neighboring building might not be bathrooms so might not stink up anything! Lol

  2. Thank you mopar !I’m not an architectural genius or an interior decorator, just aa young family starting out and wanted a home that reminded us of the way we grew up in Brooklyn. To some it may be mixed up or mix matched but I think it speaks to what we know and love and our upbringing. You’ll see us outside all summer I’m sure! Happy summer folks

  3. If it was brought up to neihboring buildings, there wouldnt be a parking space. It is very hard to find parking in alot of parts of brooklyn .. I think it looks fine and good idea w the setback for parking space.

  4. Couldnt square off top floor. Zoning is M1-2. There was an existing attic, so thats probably why its like that and listed as a 2 family w attic and cellar. Looks nice to me.. Im sure the people that built it like it!!
