Back at the end of August, The Art Newspaper posted a rumor that Whole Foods was eyeing the Monster Island building on Kent Avenue for its Williamsburg expansion. Everyone and their mother (The Observer, Eater, us) dutifully reblogged the item. Now, though, we’re hearing that the art publication only had it partly right: A source tells us that the site Whole Foods is considering is actually the one across Kent Avenue between Metropolitan and North 3rd. Sound viable? If so, good news for everyone. Except maybe Tops.

  1. i actually love tops, i admit some items you buy there have to be eaten the same day though – there stuff goes bad fast – however it tastes better than the key food / food town / etc. generic supermarkets and you can get much more interesting stuff (i’m adventurous) and many more organic options

Trader Joes: i like the prices, but the taste of some items is questionable – wouldn’t buy anything fancy there like a croissant because they would probably just take plain bread and make a crescent shape and call it a croissant. I do regularly go there to get certain items though.

Whole foods: can’t really afford it. Not sure there are enough people in Williamsburg yet to support it – the Whole Foods in Union Square is crazy busy, not sure it would be like that here, – i would probably check it out but if i’m paying those prices i would go to bedford cheese shop and marlow & daughters first
