  1. okay maybe not completely access to the pool, but they should at least get guest passes where they can go a few times a year. ugh that still sounds so weird and classist. maybe that will still be too “messy” for the spoiled brats (okay im being a tad jealous when i say that, i admit), but still.. the point of a mixed use project like this should be to eh, i dont know, have people of all socioeconomic classes interact? isnt that that point? oh wait…

id be annoyed too, and yeah i get it, grrr they are paying serious such low rent to the benefit of the developers… if i was them not allowed access to the point id be off the loews on the 1st day of june and buy a wading baby pool and set it up right in any of the common areas of the building where the “riff-raff” are actually allowed to go thru.

the whole point of mixed income housing, when it’s set up like this, completely flies in the opposite of what it’s even syupposed to be about. and yeah yeah i know rich people dont generally like hanging out with poor people. except these arent even really poor people, they have real jobs making real money and probably do way more important things that make our lives better than some lame-o graphic designer or hedge funder.

    *rob*

  2. They didn’t sound like they were bitching at all- that’s your take.In fact several of them even go so far as to even stte that.

“Still, tenants at both 20 North Fifth and Edge Community Apartments said they were largely delighted at their housing luck.”

I’m guessing you really didn’t read the article because the only one bitching here is you.

  3. yeah brxgrl, thats what I sadi. And once again, I meant that they need to quit bitching and appreciate what they have so people might start thinking this is a worthwhile idea.

    Penny rich, pound poor.

  4. “less than 400$ rent for Northside williamsburg, and they think they should have access to a pool? the unit owners pay more in common charges than these people pay in rent. maybe they should have their own doorman too. Pressing their nose against the glass while watching the rich people enjoy the spoils of life. Give me a break.”

I thought you were very clear on what you meant.

  5. Jaguar. Socially progressive doesnt mean unrealistic. NYC is trying to incorporate more afforbale housing in higher end luxury buildings, throughout the city. I think this is a good idea. But if articles are written playing the recipients of these apts out to be treated unfairly, then it will work against this whole idea, and people will see it the wrong way and perhaps public perception will be skewed. I would love a socialist society, where everyone has equal ammenities, but thats not happening anytime soon. Baby steps. There’s a saying: Penny rich, pound poor. this article incorporates that perfectly.

Brxgrl. thanks for clarifying, i read the article too. I am thinking maybe you are defending something that I am actually not even saying, so I dont think arguing with you is productive.

  6. “Dirty Hipster, the only thing I get is that the charity here as directly from the Bloomberg Administration and the taxpayers of NYC to the developer.”

i’m with ya – i think the tax subsidies/affordable housing thing is retarded.

  7. I am married and alas, I am allergic to cats.

Dirty Hipster, the only thing I get is that the charity here as directly from the Bloomberg Administration and the taxpayers of NYC to the developer.

  8. “the affordable rent is some sort of charity and doesn’t go to maintaining the building and conceivably the pool? ”

    now you’re getting it
