Now that Nos Boutique has moved a few blocks to new Front Street digs, their former space at 68 Jay Street is being taken over by something called Modern: Anthology, a creative agency and retail lab. According to its Facebook page, the shop will feature “a mix of vintage industrial furniture pieces, mechanical objects, lifestyle accessories and apparel.” GMAP

  1. I popped in with Reggie (the dog) yesterday and met the proprietors. They are super nice and let me and Regg take a look around. Basically, it’s vintage industrial type stuff (vintage factory cart repurposed as a coffee table, old lab ware and apothecary glass, etc.) and new stuff that fits the same aesthetic. I am particularly into some of the lighting pieces they have.

  2. I actually stopped by the other day and poked my head in. The owners were setting up shop and they were actually really nice. They’re planning a men’s shop that will also double as a design studio.

I think the “accessories” will be things like bike accessories, stuff for your apartment, etc. They’re apparently working with some neighborhood places like Recycle-A-Bicycle too.

Considering the lack of places to get decent men’s clothes on this side of Brooklyn (aside from Steven Alan), it should be a nice addition to the neighborhood and give Dumbo some more independent shops. Sure, it’ll be somewhat upscale, but we are talking about DUMBO and downtown Brooklyn here.
