armory-parking-0510.jpgYou’d think the city would not want to reward developers for dangerous and unneighborly behavior, but it looks like that’s exactly what happened at 406 15th Street, the site of reckless excavation, destruction of city-owned trees and carbon monoxide dumping. On top of that last, the parking garage in the building was operated for much of last year as a commercial garage, in violation of its C of O; of course, it took many months before the operators were slapped with fines. Now, reports IMBY, the developer has won approval from DOB for a change in C of O that would increase the number of off-street parking spaces in the building from 26 to 108! (All this for a building with a total of 27 residential units.) If the carbon monoxide being vented into neighboring yards was a problem before, it’ll now be four times as bad. So much for karma. 1. What’s fair and just for the Armory Plaza MUST be fair for all property owners.
I think this means the DOB has declared an official amnesty for everyone! All past and present violations are pardoned. Fines forgiven. This official precedent should allow EVERYONE to pursue whatever they decide is best for themselves and their families. No more intrusive outside meddling by city agencies. Wasder this includes you!

  2. “building isn’t 100% residential – there are some medical offices on the first floor.”

Yep, that’s how they got the new CofO and the additional non-resident spaces.

And Rob, the new spaces are not for rent (or they will be illegal), they are for the ambulatory facility’s customers (yeah, right).

My heart goes out to the folks on 16th St. who are being gassed out of their own backyards.

how much you wanna bet 1/2 of those people on 16th street will rent spaces in this?

    *rob*

  4. More challenges than I can remember reading about…venting into the rear yard, venting to the roof, venting to the moon…who knows. Gotta love the DOB in its flawed wisdom at times.
