A developer’s plan to build a mini-shopping center on Atlantic between 3rd and 4th avenues is starting to come to fruition. The first tenant to sign on for Barbara Koz Paley’s Atlantic Gardens, which consists of five storefronts joined together by a 4,000-square-foot backyard garden, is an Aveda salon operator. The business should open in August or September, says Paley, who’s still luring other tenants. One of the spaces is set aside for a restaurant, and Paley would like to see a cafe take the lease for another. The developer thinks a high-end electronics or clothing retailer would probably work best in the final spaces. Two of the storefronts will be open to the public and feature installations this weekend as part of the Atlantic Avenue Artwalk. Click through for a rendering of the project and garden.

I too live on the block and its fabulous. Try the condos on Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Heights. They are reasonable and close to the terminal. I agree with the poster above. I feel like I am the safest in NYC. LOL.
I live on the block, in a new condo building. I love it. Its very peacefu and after awhile, you don’t even notice the prayers. And hey, if it is a center for terrorist activity, guess who’s safest? Hint: its not you!

If your under 35 and want to live near BAM I’d suggest the Forte’ Condos. The building is filling (slowly) with young professionals.

It’s not going to seem so cool when the call to prayer is blasted at top volume 5 times a day from Sheik Abdul Rachman’s old mosque across the street.
You think I’m kidding? Al Qaeda used to recruit on this block in the 1980s when it was still a US backed entity fighting the Russians in Afghanistan. These same people danced for joy on 9/11.

What great vision from Koz Paley! Boerum Hill condo prices are such a bargain compared to other hoods. Wish I had the money to buy in Boerum Hill. The area is awesome, especially BAM. Good for her.
