Younger urban professionals are moving here, said Councilmember Lewis A. Fidler about the neighborhoods of North Brooklyn where 26-year-old Lincoln Restler recently won a closely contested race for District Leader. These are neighborhoods that used to be characterized as conservative Hasidim, Italian and Polish communities. Clearly, that has changed. More details on The New York Times.

  1. Career politicians who have grown very fat and comfortable in their positions tend to forget why they are supposed to be in office. And far too many of their constituents forget that they have the power to get rid of them by voting them out of office. Restler sounds like the kind of activist needed to upset the Lopez applecart, and get things done for the people in his district.

I don’t think it’s a case of young gentrifiers “taking over”. I’m sure Lopez will play the class war, but that’s a smokescreen to cover up his own failings and obvious cronyism and patronage system. Good luck to Mr. Restler.

  2. Good for him.Lopez and his cronies need a kick in the butt. I don’t think it’s gentrification- I think Restler put in the time and hard work, and people are tired of the same old same old.
