Andy Milne (lives in PA and is still a member) is by the way an excellent jazz pianist. And because NYC is where the most music is happening, I assume he’s not making 2 hour trips just for gelato, but picking up some good food cheap when he’s in town for gigs. Not so crazy.
overcrowding in public schools is a ongoing and general problem no matter what the nabe, idyllic or not. a stressed out faculty because they’ve got the max number of kids in every class leads to stressed out kids. not a good vibe for setting the table on a kid’s first real experience with school.
Drive so far… because the coop only uses locally sourced distributors and they want to be GREEN! I am really not against the idea — or ideals — of a coop. I just really think the Park Slope one is an example of everything that can go wrong with the model.
Pretty sure they sell gelato in PA, as well as down the street at Union Market.
Total disbelief at what compels someone to travel so far to buy general groceries. There are no real specialty brands at the Coop, exclusively sold items, are there? God, some people make so much work for themselves. Fortunately people like that usually realize the error of their ways, albeit only after annoying the rest of us.
It seems increasingly difficult to have a discussion of Park Slope that doesn’t involve trite, stale material–the strollers, gentrification, the co-op, P.S. 321, hippiness.

Yawn. More stories about PS. Blah. There must be other stories in the Borough in the City that never sleeps!
I assume this is part of some Murdoch plan to smear “liberals” and the places they live. (Trying to decide if I am being facetious. Maybe I’m not.)

“Doesn’t that nabe have any real problems?”
Nope, it’s “idyllic”.

Also, I feel like I read this article somewhere else within the past month.
