Man Riding Bike Very Slowly Next to Pedestrian Girlfriend Slapped With Ticket
As the guy says, “meanwhile drug deals are going on on the corners across the street [and] people are riding motorcycles up and down the block with no helmets.” More details on Brooklynian.

Someone please explain. Cyclists ride their bikes everywhere they are not supposed to (sidewalks, through red lights & stop signs, against traffic, cross walks…) and then bitch about someone not on a bike in the bike lane?
cops a ass.
I’m with nycdelisauce. Someone riding slowly and being considerate and getting out of the way of pedestrians should be left alone. The streets and even the bike lanes are dangerous to bikers, and every minute off the street is a minute safer. What is truly horrifying to me is seeing parents with tiny children on the back of their bikes riding in traffic. They are idiots.
Meh.
Contest it, the cop won’t show. But it is hardly a secret that it is against the law to ride on the sidewalk if you’re over 12.
And yes: it would be nice if the cops would ignore trespasses that aren’t hurting anyone.
The NYPD writes tons of bikes on the sidewalk tickets and I’ve never heard of one worthy of respect. I have friends who rolled up a curbcut one door down (1), in front of a deli (1) and in front of his own residence (1) and got tickets. I’ve never heard from someone who was tearing down a crowded street. So reasonable people are punished and wingnuts continue to ride through crowds of people.
Oy. Not all biking on sidewalks is a nuisance (especially a major nuisance). Do you jay walk when there are no oncoming cars or cross streets when there is a blinking red light? Temporarily leave your car double parked or go 1 mph over the speed limit? All “illegal” but hardly ever a real problem if you done thoughtfully. A man slowly riding his bike next to his girlfriend is hardly a major nuisance. Someone weaving around people on a crowded street is. Ticket that guy (I could be accused of being that guy some times and would fully accept being ticketed).
Awsome! Finally the cops are doing something. The man was on a sideWALK riding a bike, that’s a major nuisance and it’s illegal. Walk the bike, if you have to be on the sidewalk. We live in a bike-friendly city (finally!!!), there’re wonderful bike lanes everywhere and more are on their way, there’s no need to harass pedestrians anymore.
Agree 100% with ftgreenepark with possible exception to certain areas where there is no real choice but to ride on the sidewalk. All cyclists know those spots.
And, yeah, anti-bike people are total dicks.
i was the one who got the ticket. yeah i am a dumb ass.
but to clarify….it was almost 1am on a deserted street in crown heights…so I accept the ticket, but don’t make it out like i was blowing through a crowded park slope street filled with strollers…i was moving at a snails pace on an industrial stretch of pavement…
again. illegal, i accept the ticket…but it was of no inconvenience to pedestrians. i too hate cyclist who are on the sidewalks…i just wasn’t thinking, and i got caught.
as a bicyclist who rides often…
get the f*** off of the sidewalk ya dungus. what’s wrong with you? just get off the bike and hold your girlfriend’s hand.
you’re a dumbass and deserve the ticket.
(and i can’t stand anti-bike people).
