According to this week’s Brooklyn Papers, the Independence Bank branch at the corner of Court and Atlantic in Cobble Hill is being sold to David Walentas’ Two Trees Management. Walentas, who built his name as the visionary developer of DUMBO, plans to build a seven-story apartment complex above and adjacent to the bank, including a 2-story penthouse above the existing bank structure, pending sign-off from both Landmarks and City Planning. Walentas is currently nearing completion of the Court House apartment complex catty-corner from the bank. Also in the works: A residential conversion of the former Board of Education headquarters at 110 Livingston St.
Oink! Oink! [Brooklyn Papers]
Two Trees/Walentas also owns another large parcel/bldg on same block of Atlantic – nearer to Clinton Street ( the old Clinton House furniture store).
The newspaper article didn’t mention what applications for redevelopment of that property are proposed.
I do hope bank continues using that bldg. even if commercial condo- great interior.
