Prospect Park West bike lane opponents may have a spy cam, but its supporters got hundreds of people out in the open yesterday for a group ride/walk from Grand Army Plaza to Bartel Prichard Square. Patch reports that around 750 people turned up for the event, and “parents and their kids were by far the majority.” The Brooklyn Paper, meanwhile, says “opposition group members showed up on Sunday, and group representatives could not be reached immediately for comment.” The big turnout is captured in the video above.

  1. I wholeheartedly support this bike lane. What I have a problem with, however, is other supporters that so embarrassingly contribute to the pathetic banter.

We have what we want: the lane.

Yes, it’s being threatened, but your Googled intellect (fuplease) isn’t going to help anything, especially when you aim to make a case through a sputtering attempt at logic. If you feel the need to defend the lane and its cause, get on your bike and go for a ride.

Let the nay-saying residents fill up these posts with nonsense.

    Let us enjoy the lane.

  2. Since Sparafucile is getting all “statistical” and “rigorous” on us, let’s step through the logic:

“video showing nobody using the lane on a snowy February day”

This would provide empirical evidence that most people do not ride bicycles in the snow. This is a gratuitous conclusion.

“large turnout for a heavily publicized event on a nice April weekend”

This would provide empirical evidence that many people value the bike lane highly enough to show up and voice their support.

So, has your pedantry has backfired on you?

Plus what tybur6 said. Nobody even heard about this event until like four or five days in advance. The facebook event wasn’t even up until last Tuesday.

Anyone know WTF is the matter with *rob*? Is he so impaired that I should feel mean for even asking and he should get a free pass for everything he says?

i made fun of a picture where a bunch of people on bikes look constipated. that doesnt make me insane. your comment however show your own pueritlity and jejunity!

    *rob*

  4. Sparafucile… really? It was “heavily publicized” for a total of a week. And, seriously, you don’t see any value in the fact that hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of people from the neighborhood showed up to express their report?!

    Uggh.

  5. *rob*:

WTF is the matter with you? Clearly, *something* is the matter with you. Only question is what.

Anyone know WTF is the matter with *rob*? Is he so impaired that I should feel mean for even asking and he should get a free pass for everything he says?

  6. Politics aside, it was really joyous to see all the kids out enjoying the lane. They just love having the independence to ride safely, and their faces show their confidence growing by leaps & bounds. Awesome ride, all!

  7. I walked down PPW yesterday while this was going on. There were a ton of people there, and lots of kids. People were in a great mood and were going out of their way to stop for pedestrians. Well done, lane supporters!
