The YWCA’s Memorial Hall Theater at Third and Atlantic Avenues has finally landed a tenant after more than two years of marketing, the Brooklyn Eagle reported yesterday. Roulette Intermedium, an arts performance group based in Soho, has signed a 20-year lease for the 14,000-square foot space. The work, which is expected to include restoration of many of the old theater’s original features, should take six months or so. “Brooklyn is the Creative Capital of New York City and Roulette’s 20-year lease at the historic YWCA will add yet another jewel to the Downtown Brooklyn Cultural Corridor — extending from Court Street to the BAM Cultural District,” said Borough President Marty Markowitz.

  1. There was a great article about the YWCA’s affordable housing in the NY Times over the weekend. I was inspired by it enough to cut them a check. There’s so little affordable housing in the city, period. But for single women it’s especially tough. And I don’t know a woman over the age of 40 who hasn’t at some point entertained fears of homelessness — so we can all relate!

  2. I doubt I’d ever go but it is good news – however I hope that the rendering on their website is preliminary and they do actually plan on doing something to bring the theatre into the streetscape of Atlantic Ave
