Here’s an interesting option for someone who loves old houses to pick one up on the cheap. This brownstone at 409 Quincy Street in Bed Stuy has lots of original details in place. It’ll definitely require some work but the asking price is starting out at $515,000 and the listing trumpets the fact that the seller, if not desperate, at least highly-motivated. At three stories tall and 17.5 feet wide, it’s not a huge house but at the right price could be worth it.

to quibble further… amount of legal guns vs illegal guns? even further…% of crimes committed with illegal guns vs legal guns? just sayin’
denton, that doesn’t mean that the number of guns in ny isn’t still too high. Just a quibble.
I think the only agreement here is that asstringer is foolish or might be a drinker.
“1st let’s agree for the most part that Bed Stuy is a shitty and dodgy neighborhood with a high level of homicides by fire arm!”
Uh, no. Let’s not agree.
“There are too many guns all over NY.”
Actually, there are hardly any guns in NY, compared to the rest of the country…
For what it’s worth, this house is a block from the 79th precinct house. It’s not a beautiful area but not disgusting, not at all! A bit of a hike to the train though, even the G.
I don’t know the particular block, but some blocks around there are beautiful, some not.
uh, I actually live on this street, right near here, and its perfectly safe. its a nice, close-knit community, with active block associations. It has beautiful homes and is walking distance to all the Clinton Hill amenities. Its not in Stuyvesant Heights. Still, I think this house’s price is amazing– I wish I was still house shopping. I would be happy there for years and years. And actually, Astringer, DIBS was not silent on this house, he was initially critical of its price.
I don’t know this street, but to provide some context, Astringer seems to find fault (under various logins of course) with pretty much every house, saying it’s too close to [insert racial group, religious group, economic status, or structure type], or else the crime stats come out.
Well said, MM.
“1st let’s agree for the most part that Bed Stuy is a shitty and dodgy neighborhood with a high level of homicides by fire arm!”
Ummmm, let’s not. I don’t agree with that statement at all.
Yes, there are still too many guns. There are too many guns all over NY. The chance of you, as a wannabe gentrifying homeowner of any race, creed or color, getting shot by one are not all that high.
Sadly, most of the violence is black on black crime amongst young black men between 15 and 30. The stats are horrifying, but more so to the good and decent people who have to live where most of the violence takes place, and for family members who have to bury their sons and the other victims of senseless and stupid violence among a micro population with little education, no jobs, and no hope.
To dismiss all of Bed Stuy as a great place to live is short sighted. But hey, more room for those who want a home priced within the realm of reality, and want to be a part of a great community which is striving to be better for everyone, a little bit everyday.
