House of the Day: 257 Stuyvesant Avenue
Wow, the architectural detail in some of these Stuyvesant Heights homes never ceases to amaze! This particular house at 257 Stuyvesant Avenue is no exception: Check out the woodwork in the parlor and stairwell. The four-story house is currently configured as a two-family and is asking $985,000. We’re not sure how long it’s been on…

Wow, thank you so much, Amzi, for this fascinating information. And sounds like a great job.
also Dahlander and Hedman houses Bainbridge that are for sell
I am currently working on a house around the corner from this house. The Neo-Grec homes on the west side of the street do not have fretwork well from the ones I have visited. I have never been in the bathrooms in these houses just got as far as the parlor on both sides. The 1890s houses are full of Fretwork on this block. About 7 years earlier the owner wanted to build 8 apartment buildings using the same architects on this site. I am glad they went with townhouses.
sorry, ishtar, that was a typo, not an attempt at snarkiness!!!
isha=tar..there are two next to each other on the north side of bainbridge in the middle of the block, just east of Stuyvesant Ave
I don’t care if it does smell like grandma, what a great house. As soon as I close on another deal I have pending, I am heading over to Bed Stuy. Bye-bye Park Slope.

I actually prefer limestone to brownstone. I like the lighter color.
dibs, I’m going to try and check out those greenish sandstones you mention.
Thanks for all the info, everyone. I love learning about architecture. Living in this part of Brooklyn is like vising the museum for free everyday. 🙂
Do the 1886 houses also have fretwork?
Thank you!
