House of the Day: Exquisite Detail in Crown Hts

Has anyone else noticed that Halstead seems to be getting some traction in the Brooklyn townhouse market recently? How cool is the facade of this Crown Heights mini-castle? The detailing on the fourth-floor porch balcony and railing (photo on the jump) is incredible. The 2-family house is on the skinny side at 17 feet and there are no interior photos, so it could be a complete disaster for all we know. We really hope the interior detail has not been destroyed as this is one of the most interesting houses architecturally we have seen on the market in a while. As for the price of $835,000, it’s impossible to comment on without some knowledge of what lies within. It should be worth the visit for the architecture alone, though.
1199 Bergen Street [Halstead] GMAP
We have it stating near Fulton Street because it is, with it being only five blocks away with ample shopping along that thoroughfare it only made sense to state as such. I, personally, live on Pacific Street, occasionally take the A/C trains there, and must venture to Fulton Street; with it being only a ten minute walk crossing Atlantic Avenue is hardly a journey.
I took those photos myself sometime in the early Spring. Unfortunately, there were none taken of the interior. If many of you like this facade you should see the couple I will display in Bushwick soon…Stay tuned.
Amazing photo album

Very thorough. I wish every neighborhood made one of those…hey there is an idea!!
Crown Heights really does have and amazing stock of houses. My grandmother from Bushwick said when she was a girl all the rich people lived in Crown Heights.
Nice sleuthing!
Found it- 1199 Bergen, Between Albany and New York.

The Crown Heights North folks put together a nice presentation to landmarks with many buildings photographed and labeled with Addresses.
On the crown heights north link the photo is named BergenSt-1_op_489x800, SO I would guess a Bergen Street location.
Having just bought a townhouse in Crown Heights on St. Marks I can say that there are many reasons to want to be near Fulton Street. Hardware stores, small grocery stores, clothes, laundry and other important services are few and far between when you move away from Fulton. Also the A/C lines are important transit connections, even if you do have to cross Atlantic Highway – oops I mean Avenue. Not to complain -I really love the neighborhood.
I remember this house being listed in Bed-Stuy back in January or February by Halsted – and then it was taken off the market.
Kinda narrow at 17 feet, but still a beauty …
A picture of the house appears here:

It looks very likely this house is Dean Street. Dean is two blocks south of Atlantic, and four blocks south of Fulton.
