Emergency Repair for 6th Ave. Building
We were sent this picture over the long weekend with word that the building on 6th Avenue and Carroll Street had a crack up its side and that the Fire Department had to shore it up. It was stabilized but still had to be evacuated. Anyone know how the building is doing now?

I lived on the top floor of this building for 5 years and loved being there – we moved out about 3 weeks ago, coincidentally at the time all of this damage happened, because we needed more space.
The building is from the 1880s and the brick cladding on the side wall just got worn out – there is no internal structural damage. It looked scary (and sounded scarier during the storm) but no one was evacuated or hurt. They’re now working on re-bricking 2/3 of that side wall, but the city has been super slow in issuing the right permits. According to the engineers who are doing the work, Park Slope is due for a lot of this sort of thing in the coming years simply due to the age of the buildings.
They dont build’em like they used to….thank god
Concur with EnglishKills. I live on this block and heard the bricks fall during the storm. Crazy!
why have they not torn the building down yet? oh, its in park slope.
Are you kidding posting this now?! The side of that building collapsed during the storm last night. I walk by everyday on my way to the train. How has nobody else pointed this out!?
I was walking by as the firemen were putting up the braces and walked by again today — it is in seriously bad shape. The whole wall is being taken apart:

Not in the landmark district (may be why it’s falling down).
was that anchor approved by landmarks? doesn’t look contextual at all. would look much better if it matched the cornice, imho.
Wonder what caused it… just old age, or was it a really fat couple and a king-size water bed?
