This four-story Carroll Gardens townhouse has a fetching Queen Anne facade and a location on coveted 2nd Place, with one of the front gardens that gave the neighborhood its name. It looks to be in good condition, with recently renovated kitchens and baths.

As configured, it offers a pair of duplexes. The bottom one has two bedrooms and a half bath on the parlor floor with a dining room, kitchen and full bath beneath. The kitchen is newly redone, with granite counters and new appliances; at the rear it opens up to the garden.

The upper duplex has an additional small bedroom.

Details aren’t abundant, but there are some tin ceilings and crown moldings. There are also four original decorative fireplaces — apparently of the late-Victorian faux-painted slate variety, based on what we can see in the photos.

The original floors are not in evidence — in their place is mostly new parquet flooring, with some carpeting that may hide original planks beneath.

Although the house is somewhat narrow, at 16.5 feet, the center stair means the main rooms span the full width of the building. We think it would work well as a single-family or a triplex with a garden rental, especially with the center stair.

In fact, given the bones of the house and the location, we think with the right architect, this house could be a showstopper. We’d reconfigure the layout and restore the parlors with period-appropriate turned-wood mantels, among other things.

The house is 45 feet deep — all told there are 2,880 square feet, according to PropertyShark.
