The most popular listings on Brownstoner this week include a Bed Stuy brownstone with a luxe makeover, a restored Greek Revival townhouse in Fort Greene and a Dutch stone house in Stockport, N.Y.

There are actually multiple popular listings in Bed Stuy this week, and even a couple in the Hudson Valley. The least expensive home of the group is a rental in a Brooklyn Heights carriage house for $6,025 a month and the most expensive is the Greek Revival townhouse in Fort Greene at $4.8 million.

Which would you choose?

10. At the foot of the Stockton Creek in 1664, Abraham Staats built a house that also likely served as a trading post. When this original house burned around 1664, Staats stayed on the land and constructed a new stone house. It is this stone house, believed to be the oldest in Columbia County, that still stands on the scenic spot near the junction of Stockton Creek and the Hudson River.

9. In Rhinebeck, N.Y. this mid-19th-century cottage at 18 James Street, has a gracious front porch which gives it a larger presence–if the numbers are to be believed it is actually just 850 square feet. The two-bedroom, 1.5-bath house has been thoroughly renovated. There are new finishes throughout, although a few original features survive, including some wide-planked floorboards.

8. This two-story Park Slope brick row house is on the small side, but it’s got charm and a price tag under $2 million. It’s well located at 629 President Street, off a prime stretch of 5th Avenue and near the R train. It’s got some distinctive rustic touches that won’t appeal to every buyer, but will charm some. Take the kitchen, with its 19-century-ish wood cabinets, its distressed wood countertops and its reclaimed-wood paneling.

7.We’d all love a 19th century carriage house, but there aren’t many opportunities to rent one. But here’s one up for grabs at 17 Hunts Lane in Brooklyn Heights, on a dead-end mews that runs off Henry Street between Remsen and Joralemon. It’s also got a parking spot in an interior garage, something else renters rarely get a crack at.

6. This Bed Stuy brownstone offers numerous points of distinction. At 5 Arlington Place, it dates to circa 1887, built in the Renaissance Revival style by the prominent 19th century architect George P. Chappell. It’s next door to the “Crooklyn” house at 7 Arlington, made famous as the family domicile in Spike Lee’s movie (and now a gorgeous bed and breakfast).

5. On Macon Street in Bed Stuy we’ve got a two-family brownstone with a lower duplex and a one-bedroom rental upstairs. It’s been in the same family for some 50 years, according to the listing, and needs a fair amount of updating — unless you’re hot on wall to wall carpeting, faux-wood paneling and acoustic tile ceilings. Not much original detail can be spied, but there’s a pair of wooden mantels, crown moldings and parquet floors.

4. Staying in Bed Stuy, we find a three-story Queen Anne/Romanesque Revival house on Chauncey Street in the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District. Chic and minimalist, it’s another one with original details and modern upgrades; the former include four slate mantels (one fireplace works), pocket doors and crown moldings.

3. This brick townhouse with a bay front on 12th Street in Park Slope has been shorn of much of its detail and is a little unexciting. On the plus side it’s completely renovated and looks to be in top shape. It’s a three-story with a separate unit on each floor and a “well-kept” basement, according to the listing. There’s a lot the photos don’t show; any baths or kitchens, for example.

2. On Lafayette Avenue in Fort Greene is a 22-foot-wide Greek Revival townhouse — circa 1853, according to the listing. This one’s been thoroughly renovated — by the founder of Pratt’s Historic Preservation program, no less. You’d expect such a personage to retain the historic details, and such is the case here — there are numerous marble mantels, Lincrusta wall covering, wainscoting and ornate crown moldings.

1. This two-story frame house not far off on Van Buren Street could date from before or just after the Civil War, though not a lot of original detail is visible in the photos. It’s a legal one-family set up with an apartment on each floor (or at least a kitchen on each floor), so some work is in order right there. Some other attention is needed, though it’s not clear how much — the listing says it needs “TLC,” but also calls the condition “excellent.”
