Here’s a Bed Stuy brownstone that’s newly and nicely gut renovated, with some original details and a classic feel.
Here’s a Bed Stuy brownstone that’s newly and nicely gut renovated, with some original details and a classic feel. It’s on the neighborhood’s northern end, at 635 Willoughby Avenue, between Tompkins and Throop.
There’s no floor plan, but the listing tells us we’re looking at a two-family with an upper three-bedroom, two-bath duplex and a two-bedroom rental on the garden level.
The duplex has an open-plan parlor floor with exposed brick, walnut floors and original details including a tiled mantel and pocket doors. The arched entrance doors and newel post/balustrade are presumably original; the door and window frames might be original mahogany, though more likely they’re new approximations.

The kitchen is a bit lean on cabinet space, but the appliances are high end, including a Wolf range and an oversized Viking fridge, and the countertops are marble. There’s a glass door leading to a good sized deck, with steps down to the newly turfed, horizontal-fenced yard, which has a deck ringed by planters in the rear.
There’s a finished basement accessible from the duplex, and, less typically, a finished attic. There’s a new HVAC system and presumably the plumbing and electric have been updated.
Listed by Andy Jasmin of Compass, the house is asking $2.199 million. It went for just over $900K less than a year ago, so that’ll make someone a tidy profit if they can fetch that much. Think they will?
